Guns or Bells – How Do I Decide?
Saint Clair Systems' VP of Engineering & Technology, Mike Bonner, discusses little known facts that everyone should consider when choosing between guns or bells for their paint application. His presentation was made at the 2018 Waterborne Symposium in New Orleans.
The video discusses the differences between guns and bells in atomization processes for industrial paint applications. Guns, typically used for manual applications or areas needing high velocity like deep draws, use pressure and shear to atomize the paint. Bells, on the other hand, are more commonly used for automated systems, offering consistent atomization with less velocity, ideal for larger, flat surfaces like car hoods or bumpers. However, neither technology can compensate for inconsistent temperature or viscosity of the paint delivered to them. Consistency in parameters such as flow rate, viscosity, and temperature is essential for achieving a stable and predictable paint process.
